Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) is the process of developing a student’s relationships, decision-making, and empathy towards others.
Here at GIS, we use SEL as a guide to help students be responsible, reliable, and respectful.
At the primary level, teachers dedicate time in the mornings and afternoons for students to process the ups and downs of relationship-building and emotions.
During this time, students learn how to express their feelings using words and phrases that allow them to be understood by others.
At GIS, we also emphasize collaboration and cross-curricular learning.
To that end, primary learning strongly features integration between grades, and project-based learning.
Students learn through hands-on, real-world projects that require problem-solving, collaboration, and creativity. PBL helps students apply academic concepts in meaningful ways and develop critical thinking skills.
Through guided, discussion-based seminars, students practice articulating their ideas, analyzing texts, and responding thoughtfully to others. This method strengthens reasoning, communication, and academic writing skills.
Students receive structured instruction in writing, from sentence development to essays and analytical responses. The program builds confidence and clarity in written communication across subjects.
Students take the lead in presenting their academic progress, goals, and reflections to teachers and parents. SLCs encourage responsibility, self-awareness, and ownership of learning.
Younger students read award-winning Newbery books and practice discussion and writing activities connected to the stories. This helps develop early literacy, comprehension, and a love for reading.
